Vanguard PCI-0-SL

133 MHz PCI-X Bus Analyzer with Expansion Slot

  • Networked Bus Analyzer with built-in Ethernet port
  • All functions operate concurrently and independently
  • Fully compliant debugging of 133 MHz systems
  • 0-133 MHz PCI-X and 0-67 MHz PCI
  • 2-MSample Trace Buffer at 256 bits
  • Protocol Checker and Exerciser

The Vanguard PCI0SL Bus Analyzer allows testing at up to 133 MHz in systems equipped with one slot. The product uses the same VG-SAM module used in our VG-PCI product.

Via a bridge, the Vanguard PCI0SL isolates the PCI/PCI-X bus, where the Device Under Test (DUT) is located, from the backplane PCI-PCI-X bus. By this means, devices can be tested at full speed without having to introduce noncompliant electrical conditions into the system. For testing systems with multiple devices, the companion product, Vanguard PCI Bus Analyzer, is recommended.

By way of a USB or Ethernet connection, the unit may be controlled from a PC that is running Windows and BusView graphical user interface or an Application Programming Interface (API). The Ethernet connection adds nearly unlimited options to the bus analyzer tool. It allows the user to connect to the Vanguard analyzers at any place a network connection can be made. As with all of our analyzers, we provide extensive online support.

State Analyzer
The State Analyzer of the Vanguard PCI features highly advanced triggering, counting and filtering capabilities that are simple to use in capturing and displaying 64- or 32-bit PCI-X/PCI bus activity up to 133 MHz. The State Analyzer offers three sampling options—Standard, Transfer and Clock Mode—to provide accurate bus analysis in any situation.

Exercisers
The two Exerciser versions of the Vanguard PCI Analyzer—the basic and enhanced—are adaptable and simple to use. They allow simultaneous operation of two DMA engines, a command executer, and a target memory with I/O and memory spaces. A flexible script feature creates test scripts and automates tasks.

Protocol Checker
The Vanguard PCI0SL features an optional protocol checker that automatically detects up to 71 PCI-X and 45 PCI protocol errors. This versatile feature helps the user discover bus hardware errors without having to understand the underlying problem. The protocol checker is capable of operating in the background while other functions of the PCI Analyzer are in active mode. For instance, with the protocol checker running in the background to screen bus errors, the state analyzer and bus utilization statistics can be active. In instances when the protocol checker serves as the trigger source for the analyzer(s), the state and timing analyzers capture a complete account of bus activity around the time of an error—enabling the user to identify and solve the issue.
